Kamm & Sons

Kamm & Sons is made in London, in a similar way to gin, but using 45 natural botanicals, including ginseng roots, freshly peeled grapefruit and Manuka honey. It was launched by Alex Kammerling, who has worked in the drinks industry for over 22 years.

The brand was launched initially as ‘Kammerlings’, but was forced to relaunch under the name ‘Kamm & Sons’ on 17 January 2012 after the German company ‘Kuemmerling’ raised a legal issue over the similarity of the names. The name was changed as Alex involved more of his family into the business.

Kamm & Sons British Aperitif, the first drink Kammerling created, was inspired by the idea of creating an aperitif in an English style that would be reminiscent of gin, but with a lower ABV and Italian-influenced bitterness. A total of 41 botanicals are used in the process of creating the aperitif. Initially, the likes of ginseng, fresh grapefruit peels and juniper are macerated before a separate distillate (an infusion of wormwood, gentian and manuka honey) is added.

The launch of Mr Kamm’s Gin in 2018 saw the company expand into the gin market. Described as a modern interpretation of a classic London Dry gin style, the closely guarded family recipe took five years to develop and a total of 45 botanicals, including juniper, apricot kernel, hibiscus, rosehip, blue butterfly pea and citra hops.
