Pádraic Ó Griallais, founder of Micil's Distillery, is a 6th generation poitín distiller from Connemara. His family have been producing poitín on the shores of Galway Bay for over 170 years. Micil Distillery is named in honour of Micil Mac Chearra. Padraic's great-great-great-grandfather, who began distilling in 1848 right here in Connemara.
Micil's smooth, spicy poitín quickly became legendary throughout the region.
Six generations and 170 years later, Micil Distillery continues to make spirits with the same love and care their forefathers have always done. Micil Distillery is the first legal distillery in Galway in over 100 years. They produce a range of traditional poitíns and an award-winning gin made using local Connemara botanicals.
In Micil’s words: “Sláinte mhaith!” (To good health)
